ROME--Tennis fell to Columbus State Thursday afternoon at home; the Hawks by a, 8-1, final score and the Lady Hawks, 6-3.
Shorter's women (10-6, 4-1 GSC)); who learned earlier in the day that their national ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Lady Hawks entered the match as the No. 22-ranked team having not been ranked previously during the season.
No. 6 Columbus State (12-2) was a tough opponent; topping Shorter's women by a, 6-3, final score. The Lady Hawks trailed 2-1 after doubles as
Aurore Beltrando and
Samya El Hsissen earned the only win for Shorter; topping Camila Tobar and Elena Preadca 8-6.
In Singles, the Lady Hawks took 2 of the 6 matches; El Hsissen defeated Olivera Jokic (6-3, 4-6, 6-0) and Beltrando earned the win over Olivera Tadijin (8-6).
Shorter's men (2-13, 1-3 GSC) trailed 2-1 after doubles as
Marc Guerry and
Arturo Lifshitz topped Michael Trebuhov and Derrick Taylor, 8-5, for the Hawks only win of the day.
The Hawks will be back in action Tuesday, April 1, as Morehouse College visits the Walt Attaway Tennis Center; matches begin at 1pm. Both teams will travel to Huntsville, Ala. to take on Alabama Huntsville in Gulf South Conference play on Thursday, April 3, beginning at 2pm EST.
