ROME--Both, men's and women's tennis bested Lee Saturday afternoon; the Hawks, 8-1, and the Lady Hawks, 9-0.
The Hawks move to 2-11 on the season, and 1-3 in conference play. The win marks the first for Shorter since topping Gadsden State in the first match of the season. The Lady Hawks improve to 10-5 overall, and 4-1 in the Gulf South Conference; the win also gives Shorter a 9-0 victory in each of its conference wins this season.
Shorter swept doubles play; winning all six matches of the day.
The Lady Hawks won 5 of 6 singles matches in straight sets, with
Daniela Chipe winning in a tiebreak third set to top Jodie Rice (4-6, 6-3, 3).
Lee's lone win of the day came at men's number five singles, as Vincent Audy topped
Nikola Pavlovic (7-5, retired).
The Hawks will be back in action Monday, March 24, as Middlebury College visits the Walt Attaway Tennis Center. Matches begin at 1pm. Both teams will return to the court Thursday, March 27, as Columbus State comes to Rome. Matches begin at 1pm.
