West Georgia sweeps baseball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Carrollton, Ga.--Baseball dropped both to West Georgia Saturday afternoon on the road. Game scores were 5-1, and 3-2, respectively.

Shorter falls to 7-17 overall and 4-9 in conference play.

The Wolves jumped out to an early lead in game one scoring three times in the second. The Hawks cut the lead to two in fifth as Ian Redetzky scored on an error, but that was all the offense Shorter would muster in the game. West Georgia added a run in both the fifth and sixth to earn the win, 5-1.

Cody Skinner earned the win for the Wolves; allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts while pitching the complete game. Colton Cross recorded the loss for the Hawks; allowing five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts over seven innings of work.

Shorter scored first in the game two as Darrius Jennings score on a single from Bryan Mathews in the first. Shaquille Jackson tied the game in the third; scoring on an error. The Hawks regained the lead in fourth when Zach Santos came in to score on a sacrifice fly from Redetzky. The Wolves tied the game in fifth, and earned the win in the sixth on an RBI single from Galen Smith.

A.J. Sunstrom earned the win for West Georgia; pitching two innings, while allowing no runs on four hits. Chadd Felder recorded the loss for Shorter after allowing one run on two hits in one inning of work.

Mathews finished the day with four hits and an RBI for the Hawks.

Shorter will wrap up the series with West Georgia Sunday in Carrollton. Game time is set for 1pm, but is subject to change due to impending inclement weather.
