Box Score ROME--Shorter baseball wrapped up the three game series with Young Harris Sunday afternoon, falling to the Mountain Lions, 12-3.
The Hawks' record now stands at 1-6 on the season.
Young Harris took the lead in the second; scoring twice, and added to that in the third as three more runs crossed the plate. Shorter ended the shutout as
Jesse Gavigan scored on a fielder's choice from
Darrius Jennings.
In the fourth, the Mountain Lions homered to make it a 6-1 game. Again, the Hawks answered; this time with two runs making it a 6-3 game.
Ian Redetzky walked to lead off the inning, and came around to score on
Walker Borneman's double.
Gavigan singled two batters later to bring in Borneman.
Young Harris added one run in the fifth and five runs in the sixth to earn the win, 12-3.
Taylor Topping earned the win for the Mountain Lions, allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts over four innings of work.
Travis McPherson recorded the loss for Shorter, allowing three runs on one hit with one strikeout and seven walks in two innings.
Zach Santos finished the day 3-4 at the plate with a walk.
The Hawks will be back in action Wednesday as they travel to Americus, Ga. to take on Georgia Southwestern. Game time is set for 5:00pm.
