Hawks earn first win of the season over Young Harris

Box Score ROME--Baseball earned its first win of the season Friday afternoon with a 2-1 win over Young Harris College.

Shorter got on the board in the fourth inning when Ian Redetzky singled to bring in Zach Santos. In the sixth, Chad Ikerd's RBI single made it a 2-0 game. The Mountain Lions lone run came in the seventh as Adam Moore double to bring in Spencer Thomas.

Colton Cross started the game for the Hawks, and picked up his first win of the season with a solid seven inning performance. During the game, Cross allowed one run on six hits with striking out eight. Chadd Felder and Christian Champion each pitched one inning relief, with Champion picking up his first save of the season. Both allowed one hit and struck out one.

Cody Beck recorded the loss for Young Harris; allowing one run on two hits with three strike outs through 4.2 innings of work.

Santos finished the day with two hits; while each, Redetzky, Bryan Mathews, Walker Borneman, and Dustin Evans recorded on hit.

The Hawks will be back in action tomorrow afternoon in game two of the three game series with the Mountain Lions. Tomorrow, the Hawks will honor recently inducted Shorter Hall of Famer, Mr. Robert H. Ledbetter, Sr. prior to the game. Pre-game activities will begin at 12:00pm.
