The win improves Shorter to 4-9 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. The Bucs move to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the Gulf South.
Christian Brothers got on the board first in the third inning as one run scored, and added two runs in the fourth to make it a 3-0 game.
The Hawks answered with two of their own in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2.
Zach Santos reached base on an error, and came around to score later in the inning on a double from
Bryan Mathews. And, one batter later,
Will Harrison delivered an RBI single to bring in Mathews. Shorter tied the game 3-3 in the sixth as Santos scored on a fly out.
The Bucs regained the lead in the eighth, but Shorter once again tied things up on a double from Mathews.
With the game tied 4-4 in the tenth, the Hawks rallied.
Ian Redetzky singled to lead things off and Mathews followed with a walk.
Harrison laid down a sac bunt to advance the runners, and then
Jacob Forrest was also walked. With the bases loaded and one out,
Charlie Gillis hit into fielder's choice; Christian Brothers chose to go home, and then attempted to also throw Gillis out at first, but the throw was errant and Mathews came home to score the winning run and give the Hawks the sweep.
Mathews finished the day with two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored.
