Box Score 2 Valdosta, Ga.--The Hawks struggles continued Saturday afternoon as Valdosta State won the first two games of the three game series. Game scores were 10-0 and 3-1, respectively.
The losses drop Shorter to 1-8 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, while the Blazers improve to 8-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Gulf South.
Valdosta State took the lead in the second inning of game one as one run crossed the plate. Adding to the lead in the fourth, four runs scored. In the sixth the Blazers made it an 8-0 game, scoring three times, and earned the 10-0 win with two runs in their final at bat.
Dominic DeMasi earned the win for Valdosta State, allowing no runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
Colton Cross picked up the loss for the Hawks; working four innings with five runs, eight hits, and three strikeouts.
In game two, Valdosta scored one in the first inning, and added to that with two runs in the second. Shorter avoided the shut out scoring once in the sixth.
Zach Santos singled to lead off the inning, and came around to score later in the inning as
Chad Ikerd was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Josh Mann recorded the win for Valdosta State, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts over 5.1 innings of work.
Justin Machado took the loss for the Hawks, pitching the complete game, and allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Both
Dylan Riner and
Ian Redetzky recorded two hits on the day for Shorter.
The Hawks will conclude the series in Valdosta on Sunday, with game time set for 1:00pm.
