Box Score ROME--Saturday, Men's Lacrosse took the field for the first time this season at home, falling to Coker College 22-15.
The Cobras jumped out to an early lead scoring eight times in the opening frame. The Hawks got on the board with 1:46 to play in the first quarter to avoid being shut out, as
Tyler Kristiansen netted his first goal of the season.
In the second period, Shorter scored six times, while holding Coker to three goals. During the frame, the Hawks received goals from five different players— T. Kristiansen,
Tyler Schott,
Jack Currier (2),
Nathan Lohrengel, and
Matt Kristiansen. Shorter trailed 11-7 at the halftime.
M. Kristiansen netted his second goal of the game with 13:21 on the clock to open the third quarter. Through the remainder of the period, however, the Cobras held Shorter scoreless while adding six goals of their own, to take a 17-8 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Seven times the Hawks found the back of the net during the last period, but it wasn't enough as Coker added five goals to seal the win 22-15.
JR Willers played the complete game in goal for Shorter, making 14 saves.
Both, T. Kristiansen and Schott, finished the day with four goals each for the Hawks; while M. Kristiansen tallied three goals, and Currier added two.
Turnovers proved costly for Shorter, as they recorded 27 to Coker's 13. The Cobras also held the advantage on groundballs, 34-15.
Shorter will be back in action Friday, February 14, as St. Leo visits Ben Brady Field for a 7:00pm start.
