Norman, Okla. -- The Hawks opened the 2014-15 wrestling season last weekend with three duals; falling to Oklahoma 34-6, topping Oklahoma City 23-16, and upending Baker 36-9. Shorter also opened the season with a preseason national ranking of 25 according to theopenmat.comĀ

Dalton Lane, who finished in fourth place at last season's NWCA National Championship won each of his bouts at 174. He topped Oklahoma's Clark Glass by a 5-2 decision, defeated Oklahoma City's Jamie Shawver 8-1, and earned the win via fall at 2:36 over Baker's Trevor Sutton.
The Hawks also had five grapplers win two decisions while in Oklahoma.
First, NCWA National Finalist from last season,
Wally Figaro, at 165 opened the day with a win over Baker's Nick Haugen (SV-1 5-3), and followed that up with a win over Alec Iacovelli of Oklahoma (Dec. 3-1).
Ben Smith (125),
Aldon Isenberg (133),
Colby Rinehart (141), and
Andrew Ewers (285) each earned victories over Baker and Oklahoma City.
Smith; who also earned a spot in the NCWA Finals in 2014, topped Oklahoma City's Aaron LaFarge 12-6, and Baker's Sean Dolan via fall at 2:44.
Newcomer, Isenberg, who transferred to Shorter from Fort Hayes State; where he was a NCAA Division II national qualifier, made a great first impression for the Hawks. First, he topped Baker's Bryce Shoemaker (Dec 6-2), and followed up the performance with a win over Oklahoma City's Adiran Gains via tech fall 22-2.
Also making a great first impression for the Hawks was Rinehart; the three time NAIA national qualifier returns to Shorter after competing for the last two seasons at Campbellsville University. He was a member of the Hawks from 2010-2012. He began the day topping Juan Rivera of Baker (Inj. 2:20) and followed with a win over Oklahoma City's James Landoll (MD 14-4).
Last to earn two wins on the day was 2014 NCWA National Champion at 285, Ewers; defeating Beau Bennett of Baker (SV-1 3-1), and Riley Fielder of Oklahoma City via tech fall 19-3.
