Kissimmee, Fla.--Volleyball saw its season come to an end just one match short of the championship Saturday afternoon falling to Azusa Pacific, 3-1, in the semifinals of the NCCAA National Championship.
The Lady Hawks end the season 26-11 overall, and 13-5 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter went 3-2 during the national tournament, after winning their second NCCAA South Region title in as many years.
During the final match of the season, the Lady Hawks fought hard, but ultimately came up short. Shorter won the first set of the day 25-23, but dropped the next three by set scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-23, respectively.
Erica Baker and
Jasmine Crook led the attack for the Lady Hawks, both recording 11 kills during the match. On the receiving end,
Tanequa Whitman led the way with 31 digs, while Crook added 26,
Elizabeth Dowd chipped in with 22, and
Dena Pierce recorded 16.
Pierce also dished out a team high 27 assists, and
Cheyenne Frady added 14.
