Kissimmee, Fla.--Volleyball saw its win streak come to an end after the second of two matches Friday. The Lady Hawks won the first match of the day, 3-0, over Oakland City University before dropping the second to the first seeded Point Loma Nazarene, 3-1. The win streak, the longest in Shorter volleyball history topped out at 15 matches.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Saturday at noon in the second semi-final match against Azusa Pacific who defeated Lee, 3-1, to advance out of pool play. Should Shorter defeat Azusa, the championship match will take place at 3:00pm.
The Lady Hawks topped Oakland City in straight sets to start the day. Scores were 25-14, 25-19, and 25-15, respectively.
During the match,
Erica Baker led Shorter with 10 kills and
Jasmine Crook tallied 9. On the defensive side,
Elizabeth Dowd recorded a team high 23 digs, while
Tanequa Whitman added 22 and
Dena Pierce chipped in the 15.
Pierce also posted a match high 27 assists, and
Cheyenne Frady dished out 12.
The Lady Hawks won the first set against Point Loma, before dropping the final three. Set scores were 27-25, 16-25, 21-25, and 19-25, respectively.
Crook led the attack for Shorter during the second match tallying 14 kills; Dowd added 11, and
Anna Graham chipped in with 10. Whitman posted a team high 18 kills over the four matches, and Dowd and Crook each reach double figures with 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
Pierce and Frady combined for 42 assists during the match, with 24 and 18, respectively.
