Lebanon, Tenn.--Shorter wrestling was back in action Tuesday evening at Cumberland University against Cumberland and Middle Tennessee after competing in a dual match against UT-Chattanooga on Saturday.

On Saturday Chattanooga topped the Hawks 35-7. On Tuesday Shorter fell to Cumberland 21-17, and then earned its first win of the season with a 27-23 defeat of Middle Tennessee.

Over the weekend, the Hawks' Terrence Smith and Andrew Ewers recorded wins for Shorter. Smith at 184 defeated Chattanooga's Barrett Walthall by major decision 10-0, and Ewers at 197 defeated Scottie Boykin in a 7-5 decision.

Tuesday, the Hawks won five of the ten matches against Cumberland. First, at 141 Demarcus Thomas defeated Dalton Baysinger 7-5. Brandon Dyer at 149 topped Nate Croley 7-2, and at 157 Kannon Madden defeated Steven Sandefer by an 8-2 margin. Dalton Lane won his match at 174 over Zeke Hunt 9-7, and Smith was victorious at 184 over John Mark Reddick 23-9.

Against Middle Tennessee, Brandon Dyer defeated James McClanahan at 149 by fall in 4:30. Madden (157) earned his second win of the night over Jordan Russell by an 11-3 major decision. Lane also added another win to his record, defeating Khris Sawyer 18-0, at 174. Smith (184) defeated Charlton Thayn by fall in 6:55 in his second match of the night.

Shorter will be back in action this Saturday as they host the Shorter Open at the Winthrop-King Centre on the campus of Shorter University.
