HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--Saturday afternoon volleyball concluded the regular season with a 3-2 win over Alabama Huntsville. The win moved the Lady Hawks to 21-9 on the season, and 13-5 in the Gulf South Conference. The victory, also, extended Shorter's win streak to 10 games.
The Chargers won the first set, 25-23; the Lady Hawks took the next two to take the lead 2-1. Set scores were 25-20 and 27-25, respectively. Alabama Huntsville tied things up with a 25-23 win in set four to force the tiebreaker, and Shorter sealed the win by winning the final set 15-10.
Five Lady Hawks hit double figures in kills;
Jasmine Crook led the way with 18. Followed by
Anna Graham with 13,
Jennifer Campbell recorded 12,
Erica Baker 11, and
Elizabeth Dowd had 10.
On the receiving end, Shorter was led by
Tanequa Whitman, who recorded 22 digs over the five sets. Dowd chipped in with 21, and Crook posted 16.
Dena Pierce ended the day with a team high 36 assists, while
Cheyenne Frady dished out 18.
The Lady Hawks will now turn their focus to the NCCAA's South Region as they travel to Central, S.C. to play for the South Region title; which they won last season. The tournament will take place at Southern Wesleyan University next week, November 19-20.
