Marty Ziesemer Named Director of Athletics at Shorter

ROME- Marty Ziesemer was announced as the new Director of Athletics for Shorter University by Dr. Donald Dowless.

"I am thrilled to join the Shorter Family and to come alongside our dedicated team of coaches and athletic staff," Ziesemer said. "It is a privilege to support and strengthen the leaders who pour their hearts into our student athletes every day. My passion has always been investing in coaches, encouraging their growth, and helping them shape an environment where excellence, unity, and meaningful growth are at the forefront of everything they do on and off the field."


Ziesemer comes to Rome with 25 years of experience working in college athletics as both a coach and an administrator.  Ziesemer brings to Shorter a renowned career in athletics and education that includes stops at Corban University and Tabor College. In his time at Corban, he served as head women's soccer coach from 1996 to 2015 before transitioning to Vice President for Enrollment Management. As head coach of Tabor, Ziesemer compiled a 222-178-23 career coaching record, receiving three coach of the year awards. He went on to serve as Athletic Director at Tabor College from 2019 to 2022 before returning to Corban as Athletic Director. In his second stint at Corban, He helped lead development within the program, promoted leadership within the staff, and was an advocate for pursuing competitive excellence. Ziesemer also served with BSN Sports, partnering with colleges and school districts across the country to help strengthen athletic programs and help develop their resources. 

In his career, Ziesemer has helped lead large athletic programs while fostering strong relationships inside their departments. He is an advocate for developing student-athletes, competitive success, and has made an emphasis on helping grow universities. 

Ziesemer holds a Master of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine, a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Corban University.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Ziesemer and his wife, Cindy, have two adult children, Daniel and Shannon Marsh. They have a son-in-law whose name is Austin Marsh as well as their two grandchildren, who are named Hadley and Brooks.
