ROME,Ga.-- Former Shorter Hawk, Sonny Skinner, recently qualified for the 2021 PGA Championship. This year's PGA Championship is being held at Kiawah Island from May 20th through the 23rd.
Skinner was a member for the Men's Golf team at Shorter in 1981 just one year before he decided to turn professional in 1982. During Skinner's time at Shorter he won two tournaments. In 2002, he was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame at Shorter University.
Skinner joined the PGA Tour in 1990 after going through qualifying school. He won his first event in 1993, Nike Shreveport Open. Then in 1994 he picked up his second win on the Tour at the Nike Dominion Open.
In 2008, Skinner was named the PGA professional of the Year and in 2010 he joined the Champions Tour and was named the Senior PGA Professional of the Year. He became the first person to win both of these awards.
Besides his induction at Shorter, Skinner has been inducted into the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Hall of Fame and the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame.
Sonny played in the 2008, 2010, and 2013 PGA Championships. This will be his fourth appearance in the major event.
