ROME, Ga. - On Monday afternoon, Shorter University has announced kickoff times for the 2019 Football season.
The Shorter Hawks will travel to Johnson City, Tennessee to open their season on Saturday, September 7, 2019. East Tennessee State University announced that kickoff for that game will take place at 7:30 p.m.
The season opener against East Tennessee State will mark the fifth consecutive season in which Shorter has faced an NCAA Division I opponent, dating back to 2015. Shorter opened the 2018 season in Birmingham, Alabama when they traveled to take on #10 Samford.
Following the contest with East Tennessee State, the Hawks will return to Rome, Georgia to take on the University of West Florida on Saturday, September 14. The game against West Florida also marks the first Gulf South Conference game of the season for both Shorter and West Florida. Kickoff will take place at 1:00 PM at Barron Stadium in Rome. All fans are encouraged to wear white and participate in the "whiteout". The Hawks home opener will be broadcast internationally on ESPN+.
Shorter's lone night game at Barron Stadium will take place on Saturday, September 28, against Valdosta State.  The Shorter University Athletic Department will be planning a Military Appreciation Night. All veterans and active duty military personnel will be admitted to the game for free with a valid form of military ID. Fans who are unable to attend the game in person will be able to watch the game on ESPN3.
Homecoming Weekend will take place from Friday, October 18 until Sunday, October 20 and will be highlighted by the Hawks' football game against North Greenville. Zeta Tau Alpha will be planning a "Pink Out" to support breast cancer awareness and research. At halftime of the football game, the announcement of homecoming court will be made, as well as recognition of the recipients of alumni awards.
The Hawks will return to Rome for home games on back-to-back weekends in November to close out their home slate. On Saturday, November 2, Shorter will take on Gulf South Conference foe Delta State at 1:00 p.m.. On Saturday, November 9, the Hawks will close out their 2019 home games against a non-conference opponent in Allen University.
