Box Score 2 The Lady Hawks split the weekend road trip through Alabama; falling to UAH 13-9 on Saturday afternoon, before topping Montevallo 14-8 on Sunday.
It was a back and forth game for the teams in Huntsville, as the teams traded goals throughout. UAH, however, earned the win; using a pair of 3-0 runs to pull away.
All things considered, though, the game was pretty even with the Chargers holding a slim 29-22 advantage in shots and a 24-17 lead in shots on goal. While, only holding a 12-11 advantage on the draw.
Crystal Marshall and
Shelby Beverly each finished with three goals in the game; while
Morgan Perrone added two for the Lady Hawks. Each had an assist in the game as well.
On defense,
Hannah Pridemore led with two caused turnovers; while four other Lady Hawks had one.
Catherine Mitchner continued her strong play in goal, making 11 saves on the afternoon.
At Montevallo, the Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the game four minutes in, but it was all Shorter from there on as the Lady Hawks broke through for a 7-0 run to put the game away Montevallo managed to final goals in the half for the 7-3 halftime score.
In the second half, the Lady Hawks opened scoring with two quick goals to make it a 9-3 game. Only to have the Falcons tack on two to cut into the lead with twenty-two minutes to go. Over the next ten minutes the teams traded goals, for the 11-6 score with 12:39 remaining. Montevallo scored twice in the final ten minutes; while the Lady Hawks added three – all from Perrone – for the 14-8 score.
All in all, the stats were even as both teams took 26 shots, while Shorter held a 22-18 advantage in shots on goal. Montevallo led in ground balls 34-29, whereas the Lady Hawks led in draw controls 13-11.
Perrone led the offense with five goals; while Beverly finished with three, and Pridemore,
Morgan LeBlanc and Marshall added two apiece.
Pridemore added five draw controls; while
McKinley Puckett collected three.
In goal for Shorter, Mitchner added her seventh game on the season with 10+ saves, with ten on the afternoon.
The Lady Hawks close out the regular season with a pair of GSC matchups next week; hosting Lee for senior day on Friday, April 14 at 6:00pm, before going to Young Harris for the season finale on Saturday, April 15 at 2:00pm.
