ROME- The Shorter Women's Lacrosse team fell to Mount Olive in their home finale Saturday afternoon, suffering a 24-7 defeat. The loss drops the Hawks to 3-11 and 3-5 in conference.
The Hawks battled with the Trojans early on, taking a 2-1 lead with goals from
Kayla Roscoe and
Cassidy Jones. The Trojans fired back with a goal before Jones answered with one to regain the lead. Mount Olive closed the opening frame to take the 4-3 lead after one.
The visitors managed to break open the lead with six unanswered goals to begin the second quarter before
Cassidy Jones found the net to end the run. Goals from
Kaitlyn Dwyer-Peppers and
Maggie Wallace helped the Hawks cut the deficit to five to close the second quarter as they entered halftime behind 11-6.
Mount Olive controlled the game the rest of the way, outscoring Shorter 13-1 in the second half.
Shyla Araujo scored the final goal for the Hawks late in the period. Shorter continued to battle all the way through, but fell in a 24-7 defeat.

The Hawks will close their regular season on Thursday as they travel to Emmanuel for the season finale.
