Box Score ROME--Women's lacrosse fell to Shepherd University Thursday afternoon, 22-13, at Ben Brad Field. The loss drops the Lady Hawks to 5-8 on the season; while Shepherd improves to 9-5.
Shorter got on the board first, scoring once before a full minute ticked off the clock as
Crystal Marshall scored her first goal of the game on a pass from
Rachel Skinner. Shepherd answered to tie the game a minute and a half later on a goal from Georgia Karr – the first of six in the game. Three minutes later, at the 25:36 mark
Bianca Rojas found the back of the net to give the Lady Hawks the lead, 2-1. Over the next four minutes, however, the Rams scored four times and took the lead for good.
Shepherd went on to score eight more goals during the half; while holding Shorter to five goals. During the remainder of the period, the Lady Hawks received goals from Rojas, Marshall, and
Shelby Beverly (3).
In the second half, the Rams added to their advantage; leading by as many as ten during the frame to seal the win. Over the final thirty minutes Skinner (2), Beverly, Marshall,
Mia Wiggins and
Amber Hicks each recorded goals for Shorter.
Beverly ended the game with a team high four goals, Marshall finished with three, Rojas and Skinner had two each, and Hicks and Wiggins recorded one.
Shorter held the advantage, 21-19, in ground balls as
Desiree Watson-Isom,
Bethany Fevella, and Beverly each scooped up five. The Lady Hawks also led in draw controls; winning 21 to Shepherd's 16.
Taylor Moody played the complete game in goal for Shorter; making 12 saves on 34 shots faced. Ram's goalie, Lily Schmulowitz, also made 12 saves while facing 25 shots. In total, Shepherd outshot the Lady Hawks 37-26.
Shorter will conclude the 2014 campaign Friday, April 18, at noon as they take on Florida Southern College at Ben Brady Field. At halftime, the Lady Hawks will honor seven seniors who will leave a lasting impact on Shorter Women's Lacrosse for years to come.
