Hawks top Lynn, 14-9

Box Score ROME--Matt Kristiansen led the way with five goals as the Hawks topped the Fighting Knights of Lynn University, 14-9, Friday afternoon at Ben Brady Field. The win improves Shorter to 3-4 on the season, and snaps a two game skid.

Lynn Scored first with 14:18 to play, but the Hawks answered a minute later to tie the game as Kristiansen netted his first goal. The Fighting Knights regained the lead, with back-to-back goals from Dante Egan and Brian Kiel making it a 3-1 game. Kristiansen cut the lead to one with 7:25 remaining in the period, but three minutes later Lynn went back up by two. Shorter closed out the frame with goals from Zachery Dirkse and Kristiansen to take a tie game into the second quarter.

The Hawks added four goals during the second period, while holding Lynn to one, to hold an 8-5 advantage at halftime.

The third frame was all Shorter as Kristiansen, James VandenBrink, Tyler Schott, Dirkse, and VanKauwenberg each netted goals; giving the Hawks a 13-5 lead. The Fighting Knights mounted a comeback in the fourth, scoring four times, but it wasn't enough as Ben Janes netted a goal to give Shorter the win, 14-9.

JR Willers played the complete game in goal for the Hawks; making 12 saves on 21 shots faced.

In addition to Kristiansen's five goals; Dirkse, VanKauwenberg, and Jack Currier, all finished with two goals each.

Shorter held the advantage 27-17 in groundballs, and outshot Lynn 41-31; while the Fighting Knights led in face-off wins 14-13.

The Hawks will be back in action Sunday afternoon at 1pm from Ben Brady Field as Belmont Abbey visits Rome, Ga.
