Men's Lacrosse begins season at home against Coker College Saturday

ROME--For the third time in as many years the Shorter Men's Lacrosse team will open the season against Coker College. Overall Shorter is 0-2 against the Cobras, with Cocker winning last year's game by a 15-9 final score.

The game, originally schedule to be played in South Carolina, has been moved to Ben Brady Field on the campus of Shorter University and will begin at 12:00pm this Saturday afternoon.

With the majority of last year's players returning the Hawks are looking to build off of a season which ended with a 5 game win streak and a record of 7-7.

Matt Kristiansen returns having posted team highs in goals and assists a year ago, with 32 and 22, respectively. James VandenBrink finished with 28 goals and 8 assists, and Kyle VanKauwenberg netted 25 goals for Shorter.

Also returning for the Hawks is goalie, JR Willers, who tallied 152 saves in 14 games.

Coker enters Saturday's game looking to better a 5-10 record. And will do so with a fifth place conference preseason ranking, and five players who were named to the South Atlantic Conference's preseason all-conference teams.

This season, Shorter will face off against a lot of familiar faces, taking on each of the teams they defeated last year with the exception of one. Most notably is the April 2nd game against Huntingdon College; who the Hawks topped 10-9 in last season's final game, to preserve the win streak and even Shorter's record.
