Box Score ROME--Women's lacrosse got back in to the win column after dropping the last two games, with a 13-10 win over Newberry College Friday evening.
The win evens the Lady Hawks record to 3-3 on the season, while the Wolves fall to 0-3.
Newberry got on the board first as Kerri Ann Barlage found the back of the net. But, Shorter wasn't far behind and tied the game up with 25:57 to play on
Mia Wiggins' first goal of the game. Through the remainder of the half, the teams matched each other point for point; tying the game five times. Shorter took the lead for good, however, at the 1:56 mark of the opening frame as
Shelby Beverly scored her 10th goal of the season, and the Lady Hawks took a 7-5 advantage into the intermission.
In the second period Shorter added six goals, with four from
Aiste Pranciliauskaite en route to the 13-10 win.
Pranciliauskaite lead with a game hit four goals, while
Amber Hicks added three. Both,
Crystal Marshall and Wiggins, posted two goals.
Shelby Beverly and
Bianca Rojas chipped in with one goal each.
Taylor Moody played the complete game in goal for the Lady Hawks, making 11 saves on 21 shots faced.
Shorter held the advantage in ground balls 22-19, and in draw controls 12-10.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action on March 3 & 5 as they travel to Colorado to take on Adams State University and Fort Lewis College.
