Savannah, Ga.—After winning both matches yesterday, Shorter picked up a win in the first match of the day defeating Georgia Regents University Augusta, 3-0. However, the Lady Hawks couldn't stay perfect, recording their first loss of the season as Armstrong Atlantic won, 3-1.
Against the GRUA, Shorter earned the victory with set scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-14, respectively.
Once again, the Lady Hawks saw its newcomers make an impact as
Elizabeth Dowd recorded 10 kills with five digs and four aces, and
Cheyenne Frady dished out 18 assists.
Erica Baker chipped in with nine kills and five blocks; while
Lauren Meyer added five kills on six swings.
Jasmine Crook recorded six kills and 11 digs with four aces; while
Dena Pierce recorded a team high 21 assists.
Kelsey Kirk, who just played in one set, recorded five kills against the Jaguars.
In the second match of the day, the Lady Hawks picked up where they left of winning the first set against the Pirates, 25-17, but dropped the next three en route to the 3-1 loss; scores were 25-18, 25-15, and 25-23.
Crook finished the day with 26 total digs, recording 15 against Armstrong, and eight kills. Dowd led the team with 16 digs against the Pirates, and also recorded eight kills.
Pierce dished out 18 assists, and Frady added 16 to lead Shorter.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Wednesday, September 11, as they travel to Bryan, Tenn. to take on Bryan College in a non-conference match beginning at 7pm.
