Laurinburg, N.C.—Having lost the last three games, Shorter women's soccer was eager to turn things around. And, that's just what they did Monday afternoon as they travelled to Laurinburg, N.C. to take on St. Andrews University. The Lady Hawks came away victorious, defeating the Knights, 4-1.
The win improves Shorter to 2-4 on the season.
The game remained scoreless until St. Andrew's Anna Werneth netted a goal at the 22:24 mark. But, the Lady Hawks would even the score ten minutes later, as
Aline Tamiosso scored her first goal of the season on a feed from
Helena Farinha.
With the score tied, 1-1, Shorter went into the intermission looking for the go ahead. They didn't have to wait long, as Farinha scored her first goal of the game in the 49th minute. The Lady Hawks didn't stop there, though, as Farinha and
Kelli Davis each added another goal in the half to give Shorter the 4-1 victory.
The Lady Hawks used all three goalkeepers during the game.
Haley Lademann earned her first start of the season, playing the entire first half; giving up the one goal, while making two saves.
Katie Stachula saw her first action of 2013, making two saves in 3:38 minutes of play. While senior,
Taylor Hays, made one save in 41:22 minutes.
St. Andrew's goalie, Brittany Roberts played the entire game for the Knights; allowing four goals, but saving 13.
Shorter outshot St. Andrew's 24-9 en route to the win.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Wednesday evening at 6PM as they play host to GSC foe Alabama Huntsville at Ben Brady Field.
