ROME—The Lady Hawks fell to West Alabama, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at home. Game scores were 25-21, 9-25, 25-22, and 25-23, respectively.
The loss drops Shorter to 3-4 on the season, and 0-2 in Gulf South play. The Tigers improve to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The match was back and forth as the lead changed six times, and there were 22 instances where the score was tied.
Going into the second set, the Lady Hawks found themselves down 1-0, but Shorter was able to fight back and even the match at 1-1 with the 25-9 win.
During this set, the Lady Hawks recorded twelve kills to West Alabama's three.
Overall Shorter saw great performances from a lot of different players.
Jasmine Crook finished the day with 19 kills and 14 digs.
Tanequa Whitman chipped in with 18 digs to bring her season total to 106; which leads the team. And,
Elizabeth Dowd recorded 15 digs over the four sets.
Dena Pierce continued at the pace she's been at all season, recording 24 assists to bring her season total to 162.
Cheyenne Frady added 18 assists.
Morgan Ray recorded 21 kills for the Tigers, and Lindsey Bell earned 22 digs to lead West Alabama.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Tuesday, September 24, as they travel to Central, S.C. to take on fellow NCCAA South Region member, Southern Wesleyan; match is set to begin at 6:00 PM.
