Kissimmee, Fla.--Volleyball kept its win streak alive with two wins on the first day of competition at the NCCAA National Championship Tournament; defeating Southern Nazarene to start the day, 3-0, and topping Campbellsville, 3-2, to complete the day. Currently, the Lady Hawks win streak sits at 14 matches; which breaks the single season record of 13 set during the 2010 season.
In the opening match of the day, Shorter earned the 3-0 victory over Southern Nazarene with set scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-21, respectively.
Anna Graham led the attack for the Lady Hawks, recording 11 kills during the three sets.
Tanequa Whitman turned in a match high 19 digs,
Jasmine Crook added 12, and
Elizabeth Dowd chipped in with 9.
Dena Pierce dished out 26 assists, and
Cheyenne Frady added 16 for Shorter.
In the second match of day against Campbellsville, the Lady Hawks needed all five sets to earn the victory. Campbellsville won the first set, 25-20, but Shorter answered by winning the next two, 25-12 and 25-23. Campbellsville then evened things ups in the fourth set, with a 25-20 win, but the Lady Hawks fought back to take the match with a fifth set win by a 15-7 final score.
Crook finished the match with a team high 17 kills, Graham added 14, and
Erica Baker chipped in with 13. On the receiving end, Whitman led Shorter with 32 digs. Crook added 27, Dowd recorded 23, and Pierce had 11 to go along with 25 assists; Frady added 24 assists.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action tomorrow, December 6, for the final day of pool play. First taking on Oakland City University at 12pm, and then facing Point Loma Nazarene University at 4pm.
