ROME--The Lady Hawks used a late rally to force overtime, but it was Union who came out on top in the end; defeating Shorter by a 3-2 final score.
The loss drops the Lady Hawks to 5-11 on the season, and 2-7 in conference play.
Union took a 2-0 lead into the break, as Dionna Linn netted two goals for the Bulldogs.
Fighting hard to come back, Shorter scored twice late in the second period to force the extra time. At the 83:04 mark
Mary Kate Lollar scored her first goal of the season on a pass from
Tabea Kirchner. And, less than a minute later
Helena Farinha netted a goal on an assist from
Aline Tamiosso.
The first overtime period passed with the score remaining tied, but Union didn't have to wait long as Kayleigh Patterson netted the game winner in the 103rd minute.
Taylor Hays played the complete game for the Lady Hawks, recording three saves. Emily Wagonner made eight saves for Union.
Union outshot Shorter 18-17, but Shorter had the advantage in shots on goal 10-6.
The Lady Hawks will close out the home portion of their schedule Tuesday at 2:00pm as Tennessee Wesleyan visit Ben Brady Field for a non-conference match-up.Â
