Volleyball earns split on day one at GSC/SSC Crossover Tournament

Shorter volleyball split day one of the GSC/SSC Crossover Tournament hosted by West Georgia Friday afternoon. Dropping match one against Lynn University 3-2, and defeating Saint Leo 3-1 in match two.

The first match was back and forth as the Lady Hawks won sets one and four by scores of 25-17 and 29-27; Lynn came out on top taking sets two, three, and five. Set score were 25-23, 25-22, and 15-13, respectively.

Jasmine Crook and Elizabeth Dowd posted double digit totals in kills and digs against Lynn. Crook with 19 kills and 19 digs, and Dowd with 15 kills and 20 digs.

Erica Baker chipped in with 15 kills through the five sets, and Tanequa Whitman posted a team high 30 digs.

Dena Pierce and Cheyenne Frady recorded 28 and 27 assists, respectively.

The Lady Hawks came out on top in match number two of the day, defeating Saint Leo 3-1. Set scores were 25-19, 25-17, 24-26, and 25-23, respectively.

Once again, Crook and Dowd posted double digit totals in kills and digs. Crook posted 17 kills and 19 digs; while Dowd recorded 16 kills and 14 digs.

Pierce led the Lady Hawks with 26 assists, and also added 16 digs during the match. Frady dished out 18 assists over the four sets of match two, and Whitman added 16 digs to her total for the day.

Shorter will continue play tomorrow, October 19, at 11:30am when they take on Nova Southeastern in the first match of the day, followed by a 4:30pm match with Rollins College.
