MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Hawks picked up a dominant 3-0 victory over Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon inside Kornegay Arena.
The win improves Shorter to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The Hawks were rolling to begin the opening set, jumping out to an 8-2 lead. The Trojans slowly chipped away at the deficit, eventually tying the set at 19-19. Shorter remained composed late, scoring six straight points to close out the set and take a 1-0 lead. Mount Olive gained an early advantage in the second set, using a 6-0 run to take a 10-7 lead. The Hawks battled back and traded points with the hosts down the stretch, forcing the set to go beyond 25 points. After a kill from the Trojans tied the set at 24-24, Shorter responded with back-to-back points, including a kill from Lana Maluda and an error by Mount Olive, to take a 2-0 lead.
The Hawks took control in the third set, never trailing as they cruised to the sweep and secured their first 3-0 victory of the season.
Emily Drier continued her strong freshman campaign, leading the Hawks with 12 kills and 14.5 points. Taylor-Reese Howell added eight kills and eight points, while Caitlyn Sutton paced the defense with a team-high 17 digs.

Shorter will look to extend its winning streak to three matches when the Hawks travel to Young Harris on Wednesday for an in-state clash. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. ET.
