ROME, Ga.- The Shorter Men's Soccer team fell to Young Harris on Wednesday night at Ben Brady Field in a 3-1 battle.
The loss drops Shorter to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The visitors got on the board early in the 14th minute, converting from a corner kick to take the lead. The Mountain Lions wasted no time, scoring just two minutes later to extend their lead. The Hawks finished the remainder of the half strong, creating opportunities, but could not find the back of the net, trailing by two goals at the break.
The visitors connected again for a goal early in the second half, putting the Hawks behind 3-0. Issac Cruz put a dent in the visitors' lead, scoring in the box in the 63rd minute to give Shorter some momentum. The Hawks continued to battle, narrowly missing in several offensive attempts. Despite their best efforts, the Hawks would fall in a 3-1 defeat.
"A big thing and a point of emphasis for us this week has been having a championship mentality", said Head Coach Roberto Hernandez. "It is about how we fight through adversity and have no fear. I think in the first half we showed a little bit of fear, but we then adjusted in the second half. The boys came out brave and fearless, going toe-to-toe with Young Harris, and I think we showed in the second half that we can compete with some of the top teams in the conference."
