PEMBROKE, N.C.- The Shorter Hawks dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the UNC Pembroke Braves, resulting in a series sweep.The Hawks fell in game two 4-0, before suffering a 13-3 defeat in game three, dropping their record to 11-19 and 3-18 in conference.
GAME TWO
Game two did not see much offensive action throughout the seven innings of play, with Pembroke scoring three runs in the first on an RBI single and an RBI double, with the Braves adding on the last run they would need for the 4-0 win in the sixth.
GAME THREE
The Hawks drew first blood in game two with Reece Newberry driving in Isaiah Sims on an RBI single in the top of the first. The Braves responded with four runs in the second to take a 4-1 lead, and they would plate one more runner in the third on an RBI double. UNC Pembroke continued to run up the score in the fourth, driving in five runs on an RBI single, double, sac-fly, and a fielder's choice. With the Hawks down 10-1, Wilmer Henriquez entered the fifth inning with a vendetta, driving in Michael Barron on an RBI single. Reece Newberry would then allow Micah Shipman to score on a fielder's choice, making it 10-3. Pembroke, however, would continue to drive across runners throughout the fifth and seventh, resulting in a 13-3 final.
"Believe it or not, the guys gave a much better effort on the mound", said Head Coach Wes Timmons. "We didn't help our cause with all of the errors defensively, but a few of our pen guys met the expectation and gave us a chance. Hopefully, we can continue to compete on the mound, get a little healthier, and snag a few wins moving forward".
UP NEXT
The Hawks will stay on the road, traveling to Montevallo on Tuesday for a non-conference battle at 3:00 PM.
