MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The Shorter Hawks fell on the road to The Montevallo Falcons, 10–6, on Tuesday afternoon. This loss drops Shorter to 11-20 on the season.
Shorter struck first in the opening inning, as Micah Shipman led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch to give the Hawks a 1–0 lead. Montevallo responded quickly with a two-run homer to left field, taking a 2–1 advantage at the end of the first. The Hawks answered in the second inning. Capitalizing on a pair of Montevallo fielding errors, Shipman launched a two-run home run over the left field fence to put Shorter back in front, 4–1.
After a scoreless third inning, Shorter added to its lead in the fourth. Griffin Tamucci and Jake Jordan each delivered RBI singles, extending the Hawks' advantage to 6–2. Montevallo began to chip away in the fifth inning with its third home run of the game, cutting the deficit to 6–4. From there, the Falcons built momentum, adding two more runs before erupting for a five-run eighth inning to take a 10–6 lead. Shorter was unable to respond, as both teams went three up and three down in the ninth to seal the 10–6 final.
Colby Schachtner turned in a solid outing for the Hawks, allowing two runs on four hits while recording three strikeouts. Shipman led the offense with a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Jordan also contributed, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI.
