ROME- The Shorter Hawks dropped their first against Carson-Newman in a seven-inning 12-1 final Tuesday afternoon, snapping their eight-game non-conference win streak. The loss drops the Hawks to 11-16 overall on the season.
After a scoreless opening frame from both sides, Carson-Newman was able to gain a seven-run lead in the top of the second after an offensive explosion. The Eagles would proceed to score in the next three innings to jump ahead 11-0 in the fourth.
Michael Barron was able to put the Hawks on the board in the fifth with an RBI single to the gap in left-center to score Wilmer Henriquez, but this would be the only run the Hawks would manage to put on the board, and after tacking on one more run in the seventh, the Eagles were able to grab the win against Shorter in a 12-1 final. Despite the loss, Curtis Wells made his second appearance on the mound for Shorter and pitched well, collecting two strikeouts while keeping the Eagles scoreless through his lone inning of work.
