FERRUM, Va.- The Shorter Hawks entered Panther Field on Friday for the first game of the series against Ferrum University, and unfortunately fell in an 18-8 final.
Friday's game started with some firepower from Shorter, as Wilmer Henriquez singled up the middle to score Griffin Rowe in Rowe's first game back since the Kentucky State series. Brooks McKenna then gave the Hawks a three-run lead in the first with a double to drive in Griffin Tamucci and Wilmer Henriquez. Isaiah Sims tacked on one more in the first with an RBI single to send home Brooks McKenna.
The Panthers would answer in the home half with a two-run homer and an RBI single to put Ferrum within one in a tight 4-3 ballgame heading into the second. The Panthers would take the lead after driving in five runs in the bottom of the second inning, now up 9-5. The Hawks put up a great effort in the third to put the game within a run, Josh Tattershall touched grass from the right side to score Brooks McKenna, and Griffin Rowe scored Isaiah Sims on a fielder's choice. Micah Shipman added on with an RBI double to right that drove in Michael Barron, and was quickly sent home by an RBI double from Wilmer Henriquez, making it 9-8 in the third. Unfortunately, those would be the last of any runs scored by the Hawks, as Ferrum's offense continued to pour on runs throughout the rest of the game, totaling 18 by the end of the ninth, resulting in an 18-8 defeat for Shorter.
