ROME- The Shorter Hawks fell to Emmanuel on Wednesday night in an 84-71 final despite several attempts to crawl back into the contest.
After a three from
Chris Bibbs tied it at five, the Lions went unconscious, scoring 11 straight, with nine of those points coming from distance. The Lions continued to stay hot, taking a 34-16 lead at the 6:08 mark. Shorter's offense found life as a well-rounded team effort turned into an 18-5 run by Shorter to close the first frame, as the Hawks managed to cut the lead down to five as they entered the break.
Shorter struggled to contain Emmanuel to begin the second half, as the Lions scored five straight to take the 45-34 lead. The Hawks continued to fight, but would be met with an almost instantaneous response by the Lions.
Donovan Shangase helped put another dent in the lead, connecting on a three at the 3:59 mark to make it a 71-65 affair. The Lions, unfortunately, continued to convert late as the Hawks' attempts at gaining the lead fell short in an 84-71 final.
The Hawks shot 23-51 (45.1%) as a whole, with
Donovan Shangase leading all scorers with 26 points as well as dishing out eight assists.
Chris Bibbs and
Axel Holmquist rounded out the Hawks as Bibbs finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while Holmquist scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
