Women's Hoops Knocks off Erskine on the Road in Regular Season Finale

DUE WEST, S.C.- The Shorter Women's Basketball team dominated Erskine in their season finale Wednesday night, downing them in a 76-59 victory.

It was a close battle in the first quarter, with the Hawks taking the lead early off an Amya Patterson three-pointer. The Fleet would pour in a few points of their own before Chelsy Singleton snatched the lead back with her own three-pointer. Both teams would exchange the lead throughout the first quarter, but the Hawks would go on a 9-0 run that ended with yet another triple from Chelsy Singleton to put the Hawks ahead 23-18 to end the first frame.

Aijah Manning entered the second quarter swinging with a quick bucket in the paint, followed by a successful trip down Shorter Avenue from Jordan Kierbow. Erskine would find the bottom of the net to keep the deficit from entering double-digits, until Jaliyah Zackery laid it in twice to give the Hawks a ten-point lead with ninety seconds until halftime. The Fleet would make a jab late in the second, but the buzzer would sound with the Hawks up 40-29 at the break.

It would be the Fleet opening up the third with a bite from behind the arc, but the Hawks would go on an uncontested six-point run through the first five minutes without any threats from the Erskine defense. The third minute would bottleneck slightly with Chelsy Singleton and Amiya Redus exchanging blows with Erskine's shooters, but by the last two minutes, the Hawks had amassed a 19-point cushion to rest on. The Fleet responded with seven unanswered to end the penultimate frame to cut the deficit to 13 as they entered the fourth behind 60-47.

The Hawks laid out the carpet and took their stride all the way back to the bus in the fourth. Opening with an Amiya Redus free-throw and a Chelsy Singleton three-ball, the Hawks would cruise to a 15-2 run of dominance to enter the final four minutes. Erskine, not going down without a fight, would go on an uncontested run of their own, scoring nine points with only a jumper from Chelsy Singleton to break it up. The Hawks continued to control the rest of the way, walking out of Due West with a 76-59 victory.

The Hawks were on point tonight from the field, shooting  34-69 (49.3%) from the floor as well as 40% (6-15) from deep. The dynamic duo of Amiya Redus and Chelsy Singleton wreaked havoc on the Fleet, combining for 49 points on the night. Amiya Redus led the floor with 26 points, picking up eight rebounds and one assist. Chelsy Singleton had a stat-stuffing performance, finishing with 23 points, a career-high 15 rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
