Hawks Fall in Heartbreaker to UNC Pembroke in Home Finale

ROME- The Shorter Men's Basketball team fell to UNC Pembroke Saturday afternoon in a heartbreaking 79-67 defeat at home.

The Hawks fell behind early, as the Braves scored the first seven points. Chris Bibbs quieted the storm, converting on a layup to put Shorter on the board. The Hawks fought back, as Donovan Shangase gave Shorter their first lead of the night with a three to make it 24-22. Ja'Myas Davis proved to be a weapon in the first half, converting on multiple and-ones to keep the Hawks within striking distance. Both teams continued to trade buckets before Jalien Bush drilled a three before the horn to put Shorter ahead 40-34.

Shorter started to roll in the second half, as a Chris Bibbs three and Axel Holmquist layed one in to put Shorter ahead 51-39. The Hawks' offense continued to soar, as a Shangase three made it a 62-47 lead for the Hawks. Chris Bibbs brought the house down as he forced a steal before catching a beautifully placed lob off the glass to jam it in as Shorter extended the lead. After a technical from the Braves, the Hawks split their trip at the line, making it 65-53 in their favor. Unfortunately, the Braves' offense exploded on a 22-0 run late to regain the lead. The Hawks continued to fight, but just could not find the net as they fell in a heartbreaking 79-67 defeat.

The Hawks shot 26-53 (49.1%) from the field as a team, with Chris Bibbs leading all scorers with 23 points and five rebounds in his final home game with Shorter. Ja'Myas Davis and Donovan Shangase contributed, with Davis scoring 16 points and Shangase with 13 points and eight assists.
