ROME- The Lady Hawks, off a dominating second half, cruised to an 82-59 win over Converse Wednesday inside the Winthrop-King Centre.
Both sides kept it close in the opening frame, with the Hawks managing to break away as
Chelsy Singleton converted on an and-one to put Shorter ahead 17-10. The Valkyries would stay in it, scoring five straight to end the quarter as Shorter led 17-15 after one.
Back-to-back buckets from Converse gave them the lead as the second quarter rolled around. Both teams continued to trade blows before the Hawks closed the period on an 8-2 run to take the 34-29 lead heading into the break.
The Hawks' offense was explosive to begin the third period, with
Amiya Redus continuing to pour it on the visitors as Shorter outscored Converse 23-8 in the quarter. For the remainder of the game, the Hawks continued to control the narrative, extending their lead to as much as 26 as they earned the dominant 82-59 win.
Shorter was efficient as a whole from the field, going 33-64 (51.6%) with
Amiya Redus leading all scorers with 27 points, six rebounds, and three steals.
Chelsy Singleton stuffed the stat sheet, scoring 22 points, pulling down a career-high 12 rebounds, dishing out four assists, and recording three steals. Shorter dominated the glass, outrebounding Converse 43-33, while also winning the battle inside, outscoring the visitors 50-28 in the paint.

Shorter will have their final regular season home game this Saturday as they host UNC Pembroke for a 2:00 PM tip-off. Senior day festivities will also take place before the game.
