YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.- Despite strong performances from
Chris Bibbs and
Donovan Shangase, the Hawks fell to Young Harris on the road in a 90-80 final Tuesday night.
The opening period saw the hosts jump out to an early 15-10 lead after a brief back-and-forth. Shorter continued to hang with the Mountain Lions as
Chris Bibbs and
Donovan Shangase continued to pour in bucket after bucket. After
Axel Holmquist cut it two with a layup, Young Harris scored six straight, making it a 26-18 ball game. Young Harris continued to roll, extending their lead to as much as eleven. The Hawks fought back, regaining their composure as they closed the first half on a 13-4 run led by Shangase. Shorter found themselves behind 39-37 at the break.
Both teams competed hard to begin the second half, as the hosts continued to maintain control of the lead.
Ja'Myas Davis gave the Hawks their first lead of the night in a major way, as he converted on a four-point play to put Shorter ahead 48-47. It continued to be neck-and-neck before Young Harris opened back up their lead on a 9-0 run to make it a 64-54 game. The Hawks found themselves within striking distance several times, but could not overcome the firepower that was Young Harris' offense.
