Hawks Sink the Fleet in 89-51 Win

ROME - The Shorter Hawks held nothing back in their dominant 89-51 victory against Erskine Tuesday night.

The Hawks went on a tear in the first quarter with back-to-back triples from Amya Patterson and Amiya Redus, along with an extra four in the paint from Aijah Maning and Chelsy Singleton. It took over five minutes for Erskine to finally break the goose egg on the board with a fast-break layup.Shorter would cruise from there, however, dominating the channel with four layups and an extra point at the stripe from Aijah Manning. The Fleet managed to keep the margin uncomfortable for Shorter with good plays in the paint, ending the first down only 19-11.

The Hawks entered the second trading threes with the Fleet until Amiya Redus took the wheel and stepped on the gas, scoring 12 straight for the Hawks. The Hawks continued to roll as Redus invalidated the perimeter once more, hitting another three-pointer. Manning, Patterson, and Butler also traded trips downhill to add more space to the gap, and Chelsy Singleton chipped in with a flawless visit to the charity stripe as well. The Hawks entered the half in front 46-20.

The intermission came and went, and Rhyan Wilson immediately made her presence known with a quick two from the paint. The Fleet  were able to hit the target from behind the arc early in the third, but it was of no use as the Hawks' offense continued to soar. D'Naylah Williams and Ashley Washington introduced themselves with successful drives down the alley as the Hawks ended the third with a 63-34 lead.

The Fleet started the final period with a three,  but Amiya Redus struck back with a triple of her own on the very next possession. Ashley Washington and D'Naylah Williams once again took turns at the dead horse with successful trips down the channel, extending the Hawks lead to 39. The Hawks continued to cruise, walking away with a dominant 89-51 victory for their third straight win.

As a unit, the Hawks were unstoppable, shooting a solid 57.8% from the field and 38.9% from behind the arc. Amiya Redus led the arena with 26 points on the night while Aijah Manning was also a reckoning force at the key, shagging 14 of the Hawks' 39 total rebounds to put up a double-double as she also scored 17 points in Chelsy Singleton and D'Naylah Williams also stepped up with 13 each.
