ROME, Ga.- The Shorter men's soccer team fell at home Saturday night to Newberry in a 4-1 final.
The loss drops the Hawks to 0-2 on the season.
Both sides played a physical game, not allowing either team to gain an edge offensively on the pitch. The Hawks continued to play well defensively, as Jason Crux-Ruiz led the way in goal. The Wolves offense struck in a major way, scoring back-to-back goals within a minute of each other to jump ahead 2-0.
Rogelio Rojas helped bring the Hawks to within striking distance as he netted a goal in the 35th minute to make it a 2-1 affair before heading into half.
As the second half rolled around, both sides played a very strong and physical style of defense, limiting offensive opportunities for either team. Shorter continued to fight but struggled to contain the Wolves offense late, giving up two goals in the final minutes. Shorter continued to push the tempo, but it would not be enough as they fell in a 4-1 defeat.
