YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.- The Shorter volleyball team continued their winning ways as they swept Young Harris for their fourth straight victory.
After a tight start, the Hawks jumped ahead 12-7, establishing momentum. The Mountain Lions responded in a major way, going on a 9-4 run to even the score. Both teams traded points late, with the Hawks narrowly edging out Young Harris to give them the victory in the opening set.
Young Harris jumped ahead early and controlled the majority of the second set. After falling behind 18-15, Shorter went on a thrilling 10-5 run to complete the comeback and take the set.
The Hawks used the momentum gained from the second set victory to comfortably take what would be the final set. The Hawks led by as much as eight in the third set as they cruised to their fourth straight win.
The victory puts Shorter above .500 with a 6-5 record while also improving them to 5-1 in conference play.
The Hawks put together a balanced attack offensively, with
Taylor-Reese Howell leading the way with 10 kills.
Victoria Sparks followed right behind with nine kills as
Caroline Sivills.
Acca Berube and
Ava Medina each chipped in seven kills as the Hawks recorded 45 kills as a team compared to Young Harris with 29 total.
Brooke Thao and
Helena Kelley continue their streak of double-digit assists as Thao dished out 19 and Kelley had 14 herself. Defensively, three hawks got in double figures with digs as
Claudia Loyola recorded 16 and
Victoria Sparks with 15.
Brooke Thao rounded out the Hawks with 12 to complete a true all-around effort from Shorter.

Shorter will remain on the road as they travel to Wilson, North Carolina, to face Barton this Friday at 6:00 PM.
