ROME, Ga.- The Shorter volleyball team earned its third straight victory Saturday afternoon after taking down Mount Olive in a 3-0 sweep.
The Hawks fell behind early as the Trojans jumped out to a 13-4 lead. Shorter slowly inched their way back into the set and would even it at 20 all. The Hawks took the set 25-23 after an electric kill from
Caroline Sivills.
The Hawks and Trojans engaged in a thrilling back-and-forth second set, with no side gaining an upper hand. Despite the push from Mount Olive, the Hawks managed to survive, taking the set 25-23.
Both sides continued to play each other closely as the third set rolled around. Shorter grabbed a 15-11 lead at the midway point of the set, and held on despite another tough push from the Trojans as they claimed the third set as well as their third straight victory in a 25-21 final.
Victoria Sparks posted her second straight triple-double with 10 kills, 11 digs, and 11 points.
Brooke Thao and
Helena Kelley each chipped in 14 assists while
Claudia Loyola recorded 10 digs to round out the Hawks.
The win puts the Hawks right at .500 with a 5-5 record while being 4-1 in conference action.
UP NEXT
The Hawks will go on a lengthy road stretch starting this week as they face Young Harris this Wednesday at 6:00 PM.
