GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Conference of the Carolinas will sponsor football for the first time since 1974 as they released their preseason poll Wednesday morning with the Hawks being picked to finish third while three Shorter players were also named as players to watch.
UNC Pembroke and North Greenville topped the polls with 32 points with Pembroke getting four first place votes to North Greenville receiving three. Shorter was picked to finish third receiving 26 points. The Hawks are looking to make their mark in the Conference of the Carolinas as veteran head coach
Zach Morrison returns a solid group of returners as well as an exciting young core. Barton rounds out the top four for the conference as they were picked to finish fourth with 22 points.
Jahseim Henry, Jacory Wright, and
Kobe Butts were named to the Players to Watch list for the conference. Henry is looking to capitalize off a very productive junior season in which the defensive lineman appeared in all 10 games, recording 23 tackles, with 6.5 for a loss, and four sacks.
Jacorey Wright shined in his freshman season, starting in all 10 games while helping Shorter average 24.4 points per game and a total offensive production of 321.6 yards per game. Linebacker
Kobe Butts rounds out the Hawk trio as the senior is looking to replicate his impressive junior season, totaling 36 tackles with 5.5 being for a loss.
