The Hawks are excited to announce a balanced and competitive schedule for Fall 2025. The Hawks will kick off their exhibition week on August 27th with the cross-city tradition at Berry College. The Hawks will face off against the reigning SAA champions who made it to the second round at the Atlanta Regionals in the opening round of the NCAA DIII tournament at "The Cage". Later in the week, the Hawks welcome back Miles College on Friday, August 29th, to the Winthrop-King Centre and on Saturday, GSC for Trevecca Nazarene University.
To kick off countable play at home, the Hawks welcome Clark Atlanta University on Wednesday, September 10th, to the Winthrop King Centre. The Hawks are looking to continue displaying their strength at home, in 2024 the Hawks finished the season with a 7-3 record at home. This is the best home stance for the Hawks since 2017. As the Hawks use week one to further prepare they will hit the road in week two to showcase their talent at the Valdosta State Fall Tournament. Play will kick off with the former GSC opponents, Valdosta State Blazers at 9:00 AM Friday, September 12th. Followed by southeast regionally ranked opponent #6 Anderson University (SC) at 2:00 PM EST. Day two will open up with SSC Palm Beach Atlantic and PBC Georgia College and State University.
On Tuesday, September 16th, the Hawks will open up their second season of Conference Carolinas play on the road in Central South Carolinas against divisional opponent Southern Wesleyan University looking to continue their success from 2024. The Hawks then open up conference play with a home opening weekend starting with divisional champions and southeast regionally ranked #9 Emmanuel University on Friday, followed by Lees-McRae College on Saturday. The Hawks are looking to continue their success in Conference Carolina's play in 2025. In the inaugural season with Conference Carolinas, the Hawks finished with an 11-7 (.611) record and made it to the second round of the conference tournament, the most conference wins since 2017. Taylor Watson comments that the Hawks are looking to continue their success going into Fall 2025: "Our squad is ready for the second season in Conference Carolinas. Transparently, we know we can accomplish more than we did last year so we are excited to have another opportunity to create a name for Shorter University. We have a lot of talent returning and are bringing in some big pieces that have the potential to be game changers."
In October, the Hawks will take a breather from Conference play and go down the road Tuesday to Clark Atlanta University on October 7th. On Thursday, the Hawks will follow up play in Milledgeville, Georgia against Georgia College and State University on their home court. Closing out the week at home against King University on Saturday, October 11th at noon EST. The Hawks will pick up their last out-of-conference competition on October 13th, in the Winthrop King Centre against southeast regionally ranked #3 Augusta University. Augusta University has a history of success Coach Watson comments on the Hawks scheduling such competitive regional opponents, "We are excited to test ourselves against such successful and competitive regional competition. Having the opportunity to compete against regionally ranked programs like Augusta, Anderson, and Emmanuel is an opportunity for us to showcase a very talented squad and what they can accomplish in years to come. We want to set our sights on competing at the regional level and what it takes to elevate our game at Shorter University." The Hawks will resume Conference Carolina's play through November 11th, looking for another shot at back-to-back postseason appearances.
The Hawks are also embarking on their third season holding a developmental program. The Shorter University developmental volleyhawks are competing on nine dates in 2025. The developmental Hawks will open up with TCCAA Region 7 tournament runner-up Chattanooga State Community College at home on Tuesday, September 2nd 7:00 PM EST. The Lady Hawks will then hit the road to Boaz, AL to take on ACCC Snead State Community College, which finished with an impressive 26-16 (.619) record. The Hawks will have a four-game home stint welcoming NCAA DIII Covenant College, Georgia Highlands, Snead State, and NAIA Point University. The Hawks will finish their season with a home and away competition against NCAA DIII LaGrange College. Coach Watson comments on going into their third season with their developmental program, "I am excited to help foster growth in this squad and welcome in some eager and committed athletes. We have some incredible athletes coming in who are eager to start building a Christ-centered foundation in our developmental program."
