Donovan Shangase had a career night for Shorter, pouring in a career high 34 points on a scorching 12-of-13 from the field to lead the Hawks over Point Tuesday night in a 98-84 victory in the Winthrop-King Centre.
The Hawks got things rolling in the opening minutes. After falling behind 8-4, Shorter went on an 11-0 run to take back the lead. Shorter continued to thrive on the offensive side, going on a scorching 20-3 run to push their lead to 20 at the halfway mark. Shangase continued to lead the charge, converting on an and one to put Shorter in front 50-28. Point made a late push in the half, cutting the lead to 12 on a buzzer-beater three to make it a 54-42 affair at the half. Shorter shot the ball at an exceptional clip, finishing the half at 67.2% from the field.
The Hawks continued their efficient shooting, as another Shangase three made it a 58-42 lead for Shorter. The visitors responded with a run of their own, making it a 60-53 game at the 14:55 mark. Back-to-back buckets from
Axel Holmquist and
Donovan Shangase helped put the Hawks in the driver's seat for the remainder of the game. The Hawks' offense continued to soar, extending their lead to as much as 25. Shorter continued to ride Shangase's hot hand, as well as solid performances from
Ja'Myas Davis and Holmquist to carry them to a 98-84 victory.
The Hawks shot a season-high 62.5% from the field including a scorching 61.1% from three. Alongside Shangase's 34 points,
Ja'Myas Davis finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, and five assists on a solid 58.3% from the field.
Axel Holmquist was a force in the paint, finishing with 11 points and six rebounds, with
Chris Bibbs rounding out the Hawks with 10 points, four rebounds, and five assists.
