FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- The Hawks came up short Tuesday night to Emmanuel in an 87-83 final inside the Shaw Athletic Center.
Shorter struggled to contain Emmanuel early on as they fell behind 23-13. The Hawks fought to cut the deficit, but would find themselves down 50-34 as halftime approached.
The Hawks' offense came to life in the second half as five straight from
Donovan Shangase made it a 50-41 affair. The Lions continued to hold on to their lead, taking a 62-51 lead at the 14:07 mark. Shorter stormed back, going on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to two. The hosts managed to extend their lead, taking an 86-75 advantage late. Big-time play from Shangase and
Chris Bibbs kept the Hawks in striking distance as a pair of free throws from Shangase made it 86-81.
Ja'Myas Davis cut the lead to three on a layup with just 31 seconds remaining. After a missed free throw from the Lions, the Hawks had one last chance to tie the game. Unfortunately, Shorter could not convert as they fell in a tough 87-83 final.
Chris Bibbs and
Donovan Shangase led all scorers on the day as Bibbs finished with 22 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Shangase had 22 points, three rebounds, and nine assists.
Ja'Myas Davis and
Axel Holmquist each chipped in 14 points to round out the Hawks' scoring efforts.

The Hawks will take a brief break before they host Albany State on New Year's Eve at 4:00 PM.
