ROME- Shorter's men's basketball team was unable to sustain a hot start out of the gate as they went the distance with Albany State Wednesday night, falling in a 91-86 overtime loss inside the Winthrop-King Centre.
After brief exchanges from both sides, Shorter pulled away early, taking a 17-9 lead on an
Axel Holmquist bucket. Shorter continued to control the narrative, going on a 13-0 run to make it a 38-23 game.
Jalien Bush was unconscious during the first half, hitting all five of his shot attempts for 11 points. Shorter rolled through the remainder of the period, entering halftime in front 42-33.
The visitors opened the second half hot, going on a 15-4 run to claim the lead. Both sides continued to fight as the period moved along, with multiple lead changes occurring.
Ja'Myas Davis tied the contest with a go-ahead bucket with 34 seconds remaining. The Rams were provided with a chance to close out the game, but would be denied as
Chris Bibbs forced overtime with a block at the buzzer.
In the overtime period, the Rams started with six unanswered points to gain an upper hand. Shorter fought back, but it would not be enough as they fell in a tough 91-86 defeat.
Shorter shot the ball well at an efficient 62.1% with six Hawks finishing in double figures, led by Bush (19), Shangase (18 points, five rebounds, seven assists), Davis (13),
David Compere (11), and Holmquist (10).
