MONTEVALLO, Ala.- The Shorter Women's Basketball team dropped their contest to Montevallo inside Central State Bank Arena in a tough 67-47 loss Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Hawls to 2-3 on the season.
The Hawks started out strong, taking a 12-8 lead in the first quarter on back-to-back layups from
Amari Butler and
Aijah Manning. The Falcons responded with a 6-0 run to close the quarter and take a two-point lead. The second quarter proved to be a battle of runs between both sides, with the hosts maintaining control. Shorter fought back, but would find themselves behind 30-25 as they entered halftime.
Shorter's offense had a slow start, as Montevallo pushed their lead out by nine to begin the third. Manning brought the Hawks to within five on a pair of free throws to keep Shorter in the contest. Montevallo defensively smothered Shorter for the remainder of the quarter, as the Hawks went into the fourth behind 48-36. The Hawks went cold in the final quarter, struggling to convert from the field as the hosts went on a 15-5 run to take the full momentum. Shorter fought back, but could not recover from their cold start, as they fell in a 67-47 final.
Aijah Manning recorded her fifth-straight double-double, putting up 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Hawks.

Shorter will remain on the road as they travel to Salisbury, North Carolina, to take on Catawba this Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
