ROME, Ga.- To celebrate 20 years of Shorter University football, Shorter Hawks athletics will be counting down the top ten moments in Shorter University football history for the length of the season.
 
Shorter Football's Top 10 Moments: Jevaris Jones Earns Shot with the New York Jets
 
Jevaris Jones etched his name in Shorter history in 2017 when he signed with the New York Jets. Jones was one of two players in Shorter history to make it to the NFL after his stellar career as a Hawk. From 2014-16, Jones recorded 261 total tackles, 163 solo tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 career sacks, and 2 interceptions. 
 
Jones stands out as one of the program's defensive greats. After a strong senior season that included 106 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and an interception, Jones caught the attention of NFL scouts. His 2016 senior season earned him a tryout with the New York Jets going into the 2017 NFL season. Although his time with the Jets was short, Jones marked himself as one of Shorter University's all-time greats.
